In an interview with Page Six, a friend of Simon Cowell said the “America’s Got Talent” host nearly got paralyzed after his terrible bike crash. The 60-year-old broke his back in three places and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
After a six-hour-long operation, doctors told his partner Lauren Silverman that Simon nearly severed his spinal cord in that accident. The source recalled how the accident took place.
“He did a turn in his courtyard, changed gear, and then the bike went into a wheelie and threw him off the back… Simon was in complete agony and was stretchered out of his home and taken in an ambulance to hospital.”
The source added that friends at the scene ran to him and checked if he could move his fingers and toes, noting that the doctors had to insert a metal rod into his back. At the time of the accident, Simon was at home with Silverman, their 6-year-old son Eric, and Adam, the 14-year-old son.
Simon did take to Twitter and told his fans “Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time. I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”

In a second Tweet, he thanked the nurses and doctors for having good care of him: “And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone Simon.”
One of Simon’s friends joked, saying that “knowing Simon, he’ll be ready to go home as soon as they’ll let him. He’s going to hate being cooped up.” However, he should stay in the hospital for quite some time to recover.
