Her mother, Elsie C. Carroll Maginnis, passed away in 2005. Her brother David M. Maginnis passed away before Elsie did.
Karen married her husband, Scott Murray on September 12, 1989. She has two children with Scott – daughter Ernestine Murray and son Max Murray.
Karen attended the University of South Carolina, a public research university in Columbia, South Carolina.
