Chris Shields Obituary, Death – It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Chris Shields, a dedicated member and volunteer of the Diesel and Electric Preservation Group (DEPG). Chris Shields left us on Saturday, October 14th, at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of passion and tireless dedication to the world of railways. Chris Shields was a prominent figure in railway circles, and his untimely departure has left a void that will be difficult to fill.

He was widely recognized for his exceptional fundraising efforts, which he pursued with unwavering enthusiasm, benefitting the causes he held dear. His contributions extended far beyond the DEPG, as he lent his support to various other railway preservation organizations. One of the prominent organizations that benefited from Chris’s dedication was the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, which is responsible for the iconic steam locomotive, 60163 ‘TORNADO.’ Chris was deeply involved in sales and fundraising for this trust, showcasing his commitment to preserving historical railway artifacts.

In addition to the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, Chris played pivotal roles in organizations like The Deltic Preservation Society and the Western Locomotive Association, among others. His tireless efforts and passion for railways touched the hearts of many, as he strived to ensure the preservation of locomotives and their rich histories. Beyond his fundraising activities, Chris was known for his hands-on involvement in the railway world. He could frequently be found on the footplate of locomotives at the narrow-gauge Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.
